TUB-Tongji Summer School 2022

With great pleasure, Cassandra Foresight once more received the invitation to take part in the TUB-Tongji Summer School 2022 for a lecture on “China globally – political and economic policies from Europe to Africa” on September 07, 2022.

TUB-Tongji Summer Schools, an annual project by the “Chinesisch-Deutsches Hochschulkolleg (CDHK)“, offer a comprehensive and multi-faceted program for beginners or advanced learners of China studies. Cassandra Foresight enjoys regular exchanges with academia and students to stay on top of current scientific research, discussions, and developments. This year, roughly 130 students took part in this program headed by Dr. Sigrun Abels, head of the TU Berlin Center for Cultural Studies on Science and Technology in China.

Focus of this year’s lecture were Chinese policies in international politics and economics with reference to European and African cooperation. Insights into investments in both Europe and the Western African state of Sierra Leone were given, highlighting some examples of China’s visibility in matters of

  • Media (“China Today” sections in national and local newspapers, Chinese diplomats speaking in talkshows on TV etc.)
  • Politics (Chinese promotional campaigning during presidential elections)
  • Education (Chinese investments in local schools, financing of scholarships, etc.)
  • Infrastructure (Chinese investments into e.g. housing, ports/ airports, healthcare)
  • … and more.
